Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University (TNJFU) is a state university established to promote education and research in fisheries science. It offers professional and paraprofessional undergraduate degree programs. The university's academic structure is aligned with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) system, promoting hands-on learning, research, and entrepreneurship. TNJFU aims to build skilled professionals in fisheries, food technology, biotechnology, and environmental engineering. Application Fees

The university comprises several constituent colleges, including:

  • General/OBC Candidates: ₹600
  • SC/ST Candidates: ₹300

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Eligibility for B.F.Sc. & B.Tech. Courses
    • Nativity: Only candidates from Tamil Nadu are eligible, except for B.Tech. (Biotechnology), which allows other state candidates under Other State Quota.
    • Qualification: Must have passed HSC (10+2) under the State Board/CBSE or equivalent.
    • Minimum Qualifying Marks:

    Open Competition (OC) 55% aggregate in all 4 required subjects
    Backward Class (BC) / BCM 50% aggregate
    MBC & DNC 45% aggregate
    SC / SCA A pass in qualifying exam with all 4 subjects
    ST A pass in qualifying exam with all 4 subjects
  2. Eligibility for B.B.A. & B.Voc. Courses
    • Eligible Streams: Candidates from any academic or vocational stream in Tamil Nadu can apply.
    • Other States: Only B.B.A. (Fisheries Enterprises Management) is open to candidates from other states under separate quota.
    • Qualification: Pass in HSC (State Board/CBSE/equivalent).
    Re-evaluation / Re-totaling Policy
    • If revised marks are received after rank list publication, candidates must email the updated marks to:
      • admissionug@tnfu.ac.in before counseling.
    • If original marks were higher and admission was given based on them, admission will be cancelled if revised marks are lower.
    • A new allotment may be made based on revised marks upon request.
    Number of Attempts
    • SC/SCA/ST: Allowed up to 3 attempts to pass the qualifying exam.
    • Others: Allowed 2 attempts.
Eligible Subjects in HSC (Academic Stream):
  1. For B.F.Sc.:

    Must have studied:

    • Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology OR
    • Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics OR
    • Physics, Chemistry, Biology with any one of:

      Elective subjects: Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Home Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, Informatics Practices, Environmental Science

  2. For B.Tech. (Fisheries Engineering):

    Must have studied:

    • Mathematics / Maths-Sci, Physics, Chemistry and Biology OR
    • Mathematics / Maths-Sci, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science / Informatics Practices
  3. For B.Tech. (Biotechnology):

    Must have studied:

    • Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology OR
    • Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics OR
    • Physics, Chemistry, Biology + one from elective subjects (same as B.F.Sc.)
  4. For B.Tech. (Food Technology):

    Must have studied:

    • Maths-Sci, Physics, Chemistry and Biology OR
    • Maths-Sci, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science / Informatics Practices
  5. For B.B.A. (Fisheries Enterprises Management):
    • Based on average of all 12th STD subject marks (any stream approved by TN/India)
  6. For B.Voc. Courses (All 3 streams):
    • Based on average of marks in any Higher Secondary stream approved by TN/India.
  7. Vocational Stream (5%) Quota - B.F.Sc. only

    Only Tamil Nadu vocational stream students eligible. They should have passed HSC with combinations like:

    • Biology & Agricultural Practices - theory + practical
    • Biology + Agricultural Science (Theory + Practical) + Computer Technology
    • Biology + Agricultural Science (Theory + Practical) + Employability Skills

    Not eligible: Vocational stream candidates from other boards or states.

Age Limit for TNJFU UG Courses:

For all courses except B.Voc.:

  • SC / SCA / ST candidates: ❌ No age limit
  • Other candidates: ✅ Should not have completed 21 years
  • Differently abled candidates: ✅ Should not have completed 26 years

  • For B.Voc. (3-year vocational degree) courses: ❌ No age limit for any category
Eligibility Criteria for NRI / NRI Sponsored Candidates
  • Must be an NRI / Sponsored by NRI parent, sibling, or blood relative.
  • Must submit Relationship Certificate and financial support proof.
Application Fee for NRI Candidates
  • US $30 or INR 2,600 (to be paid online during application).

Application Process

The application process is online and based on merit, following government reservation norms. It includes:

  1. Application Submission
    • Candidates must submit an online application through the official TNJFU admission portal.
    • Applications should include:
      • Personal and academic details
      • Preference of degree programs
      • Uploading of required documents
      • Payment of application fee
  2. Online Counselling Call
    • Candidates shortlisted in the merit list are invited for online counselling.
    • The university sends intimation through email/SMS with instructions and counselling schedule.

    Candidates will:

    • Log in to the counselling portal
    • Confirm participation
    • Select course preferences based on availability
  3. Seat Allotment

    Seats are allotted based on:

    • Merit rank
    • Category/reservation (as per Tamil Nadu Government norms)
    • Course preference
    • Availability of seats

    The seat allotment result is published online.

  4. Confirmation of Admission

    Candidates who are allotted seats must:

    • Confirm acceptance of the seat online
    • Download provisional allotment letter
    • Pay the admission fee within the specified time

    Admission Fee Payment is done online through the portal.

  5. Document Verification

    After fee payment, candidates must report to the allotted campus on the specified date for original certificate verification.

    Documents required:

    • HSC Mark Sheet
    • Community Certificate
    • Transfer and Conduct Certificates
    • Nativity/First Graduate Certificate (if applicable)
    • Special category certificates (if applicable)
  6. Final Admission and Enrollment
    • Upon successful verification, the student is formally enrolled in the selected program.
    • Orientation and classes commence as per the academic calendar.

Admission Procedure

  1. Application Submission
    • Candidates must fill out their preferred degree course and college choices during application submission.
    • Selection is purely merit-based, done through online and/or offline counselling.
    • Note: Being called for counselling does not guarantee a seat.
  2. Mode of Selection
    • For B.F.Sc. and B.Tech.: Selection is based on aggregate marks in qualifying exam (HSC).
    • For B.B.A./B.Voc.: Based on percentage marks in HSC.
Online Counselling Process

After the rank list is released:

  1. Notification
    • Shortlisted candidates are notified via SMS and Email.
  2. Counselling Rounds
    • Online counselling is held in multiple rounds, based on availability of seats.
    • All general reservation candidates participate online.
    • Special categories (e.g., Differently abled, 7.5% Government School quota, Wards of Ex-servicemen, Eminent Sportspersons, NRI, Fishermen ward 5% & 15%) have different procedures.
Each Round of Counselling Has 4 Stages
  1. Payment of counselling fee and choice filling
  2. Allotment of seat
  3. Confirmation of allotment and payment of admission fee (online)
  4. Reporting to University with original certificates for verification
Choice Filling
  • Candidates are given 3 days to fill their choices of college and degree.
  • Can select any number of choices based on preference.
  • Allotment is based on:
    • Rank
    • Community
    • Availability of seats
Allotment & Confirmation
  • At allotment, 4 options are shown.
  • Once a seat is allotted, the candidate must confirm the seat within 3 days.
  • If not confirmed, the seat is lost and the candidate is not moved to the next round.

Important Dates

  • Online Application Submission:
    • Start Date: Monday, 2nd June 2025, at 10:00 AM IST
    • End Date: Friday, 27th June 2025, at 5:00 PM IST
  • This timeline applies to all applicants, including:
    • Candidates from Tamil Nadu and other states
    • NRIs (Non-Resident Indians), Wards of NRIs, NRI Sponsored candidates, and Foreign Nationals
